APS Global Physics Summit Atlanta, GA, and online, April 11-16, 2027

Squishy Science Sunday

Explore the world of soft and squishy materials with your family, friends, and curious minds of all ages. Held at the Georgia Aquarium on Sunday, April 11, 2027.

Three scientists

Get your hands dirty and introduce your family to the concepts of physics with this community event featuring interactive experiments and demos including:

  • Playing with soap bubbles, gooey liquids, and small robots
  • Making spaghetti and meatballs out of silly slime
  • Experiencing the curious behavior of oobleck and sand

Hands-on stations will be managed by physicists and physics students.

How to attend

Squishy Science Sunday is open to the public and free to enter with a paid Georgia Aquarium ticket. All APS Global Physics Summit attendees will receive a discount of $10. Discount tickets are only available through the designated promotional website through the “DEEP Discounts Just for You” section, where you can select the “Anytime General Admission” discounted ticket option.

We hope you will join us at the Georgia Aquarium, Oceans Ballroom on Sunday, April 11, 2027, from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Physics in a bottle

At Squishy Science Sunday in 2026, Clara Nellist, particle physicist, taught young scientists about pressure changes and density through hands-on activities.

An afternoon of physics— and, well, cotton candy

Cries of "Ew!" and "Slimy!" aren't the responses most APS meeting presenters hope to receive, but Squishy Science Sunday volunteers accepted the feedback with a grin.
