Invited speaker abstract submissions

APS members may be invited to present one scientific abstract at the APS Global Physics Summit 2027. Individual speakers will not be invited to speak at two consecutive Global Physics Summits, meaning if you were an invited speaker who presented at the 2026 Global Physics Summit, you will not be invited to speak at the 2027 Global Physics Summit.

Exceptions are only made for speakers who will receive APS Prizes and Awards at the meeting.

In addition to their invited talk, invited speakers may submit the following to the regular scientific program:

• One technical oral talk (12-minute slot)
• One non-technical oral talk (12-minute slot)
• One poster talk (length of poster session)

APS will send out invited speaker letters, usually in October, with instructions on submitting their invited abstracts. Oral and poster abstracts should be submitted through the standard submission link starting on Sept. 9.

Invited speakers must still register for the Global Physics Summit. Their speaker confirmation emails will specify whether the speaker should pay for meeting registration or if it will be sponsored by an APS Unit.

Invited abstract guidelines

Eligibility

An invited abstract may only have the invitee as the author. APS suggests that the invitee credit collaborating researchers in a footnote within the paper. The invitee must deliver the paper, unless a replacement speaker is agreed upon beforehand, to APS Abstract Help.

Character limit

The limit for invited abstract text is approximately 2,000 characters.

Withdrawing an invited abstract

If you accept an invitation to present but are later unable to do so, please contact APS Abstract Help.

Presentation time

At the Global Physics Summit, an invited paper is expected to have 30 minutes for the presentation, plus six minutes for questions.
