Find grants for travel and caregivers
APS Global Physics Summit attendees can apply for a number of awards and grants to help offset the cost of meeting attendance. Students, in particular, are encouraged to apply. Grants for those with dependents who may need caregiving are also available.
Iris M. Ovshinsky Student Travel Awards
The Ovshinsky Student Travel Awards have been established to assist the career of student researchers. The Division of Materials Physics supports multiple travel awards for $750 to enable students to participate in the APS Global Physics Summit 2025. Applications open Oct. 4.
Postdoctoral Travel Awards
The Division of Materials Physics (DMP) Postdoctoral Travel Awards have been established to recognize innovative materials physics research by postdoctoral researchers that will be presented at the APS Global Physics Summit. The division expects that there will be multiple $1200 awards in 2024 to support participation in DMP Focus Topic sessions at the APS Global Physics Summit sessions. Applications open Oct. 4.
DCOMP Travel Awards for the APS Global Physics Summit
The DCOMP Travel Award supports students and postdoctoral researchers. Students and postdocs presenting a talk in a DCOMP-sponsored or co-sponsored session at the APS Global Physics Summit are invited to apply for a DCOMP Travel Award, up to $800 in travel reimbursements for the on-site meeting or to contribute to meeting registration fees and a year of membership in APS and DCOMP for the virtual meeting. Applications open Oct. 25.
GMED Student Travel Award
To increase student involvement in GMED and in the APS as a whole, GMED will sponsor up to three Student Travel Awards towards in-person attendance at the APS Global Physics Summit. The awards will consist of $450 in travel assistance reimbursement. Applications open Jan. 6, 2025.
FHPP Student Travel Awards
The Forum on the History and Philosophy of Physics (FHPP) of the American Physical Society is pleased to offer a limited number of travel grants of up to $750 to encourage undergraduate and graduate student participation in the APS Global Physics Summit 2025. Applications are open.
FOEP Travel Grant
Any graduate student who will be presenting an abstract directly related to outreach or the engagement of the public, or who is actively partaking in a physics public engagement event during the meeting, is welcome to apply for the FOEP travel grant.The travel award will consist of $500 in travel assistance to attend the meeting. Applications are open.
First-Time Graduate Student Conference Attendee Award
This award specifically seeks applicants who are members of APS and FGSA and who are attending their first APS meeting, which is often the most impactful and meaningful in a young student’s career. This award grants up to $500 for students in the U.S. and up to $1,000 for international students. Applications are open.
FGSA Underrepresented Minority Student Awards
Underrepresented Minority Student Awards seek to address inequities and unique challenges often faced by underrepresented students in physics. The goal of the award is to support students while improving the attendee representation at APS conferences. This award grants up to $500 for students in the U.S. and up to $1,000 for international students. Applications are open.
FGSA Travel Award for Excellence in Graduate Research
The FGSA Graduate Research Excellence Award recognizes graduate students who are members of APS and FGSA, who are presenting at the APS Global Physics Summit, and who have made noteworthy progress in their academic careers. This award grants up to $500 for students in the U.S. and up to $1,000 for international students. Applications are open.
