Quantum Simulation of Condensed Matter Physics
Floquet prethermalization on a digital quantum computer
10:00 am – 10:12 amQuantum simulation is a leading application of quantum computers, allowing the study of complex quantum dynamics beyond classical capabilities. We examine the stability of Floquet prethermalization, emergent thermal behavior over long timescales, in the 2D transverse-field Ising model (ITF) using Quantinuum's H2-1 trapped-ion quantum computer. With a coarse Trotterized time evolution, we probe this non-thermal regime, where the H2-1 processor enables exploration of parameter regimes that are challenging for classical simulations. We benchmark various classical methods against digital quantum simulation. Our findings offer new insights into quantum prethermalization, demonstrating the potential of quantum computing to deepen our understanding of nonequilibrium many-body dynamics.
