Teaching quantum ethics in the classroom and beyond with modular curricular materials from the Quantum Ethics Project

3:00 pm – 3:12 pm
Presenter: Josephine Meyer (University of Colorado, Boulder)
Author: Joan Arrow (Quantum Ethics Project)

As quantum technologies move from academic labs to the marketplace. it is imperative that we develop leaders trained not only in technical aspects of these technologies but in critical thinking around the ethics and societal impact of these technologies. Moreover, we hear from instructors that though there is widespread consensus around the importance of these topics, limited class time and lack of facilitation and subject-matter expertise make many instructors understandably reticent to discuss these topics in detail. We present a series of research-inspired, modular curricular materials developed by educators at the Quantum Ethics Project to facilitate incorporation of these discussions into the quantum information curriculum and discuss our experience using these tools across a variety of levels (non-technical to expert).
