Growing a Climate of Trust Through Public Engagement with, and in, Science

3:00 pm – 3:36 pm
Presenter: Shane Bergin (University College Dublin)

In this presentation I will explore the complex relationships between science, expertise, policy and trust. Through active modes that involve the audience, we will explore the implications for public engagement and for science/physics, more generally - for example, we will question whether science is more trustworthy than other forms of knowledge and consider how we might build a climate of trust in diverse expertise to tackle the big issues facing our world – things like climate change, biodiversity loss, equity in health care, pandemics, AI, mental health, etc.

Should the audience wish to, they might like to listen to my podcast in this area - The Trust Race: How Scandals and Controversaries Impact our Trust in Science
