Talking about Science: Engaging the media, the government, students, and your mom

8:30 am – 9:06 am
Presenter: Don Lincoln (Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab))

Our world is a bubbling frenzy of information, misinformation, and disinformation.  Scientific thinking is under constant assault in the public marketplace, where lies can overpower truth.  The voice of science is often drowned out.  Something must be done.

What is the answer?  First and foremost, science must make itself heard, and the way to do that is with effective and disciplined science communication.  In this talk, I will briefly discuss why effective science communication is important to all scientists; however, the majority of the presentation will explore what goes into an effective communication plan and introduces some of the various ways in which audience members can publicize science.
